Some Methods of Calculating Quantities of Materials

There are numerous strategies used for calculating quantities of materials. Which one goes together with your plan relies upon at the design and form of the constructing. Each approach is in general one of a kind from different.

Calculation of quantities of cloth needs a right technical information of materials and construction. The 5 most important strategies are defined here for you and they come up with the proper dimension of materials you want.

Methods of Calculating Quantities

Centre Line Method

Centre line approach is relevant to the square constructing with symmetrical offsets. To calculate the quantities of substances, you need to multiply the overall centre line length with breadth and depth of the construction.

The centre line period might be reduced with the aid of half of of breadth of each junction in which the main wall is joined with the go walls, partitions or verandah. The junctions must be taken into consideration at the same time as calculating the centre line period of a wall. The amount estimation added out by way of this method is accurate and rapid.

Top 5 Causes of Foundation Failures and how to prevent it

The most prevalent cause of foundation problems is water. If there is too much water, the soil will inflate, and it will shrink if there is not enough. Both of these scenarios might produce issues with your home’s foundation, especially if the swelling or shrinkage is concentrated in one region.

If the earth beneath the foundation isn’t evenly moist or dry, it is another way. Soil erosion caused by poor drainage can wreak havoc on your home’s foundation. Below, we’ll go over these topics in further detail.

Water isn’t the only cause of foundation failure. The foundation of the Leaning Tower of Pisa was too shallow (only approximately 10 feet deep) and built on unstable soil. We’re all aware of what occurred.

We need to talk about expansive soils before getting into the top three causes of foundation problems.

Top 5 Causes of Foundation Failures

Poor Drainage

Short downspouts, blocked gutters, and a lack of waterproofing are all indications of inadequate drainage.

Poor drainage around your foundation can create oversaturation of the soil, which can lead to foundation instability.

Contact Atlas Master Companies for an inspection and quote if incorrect drainage has produced foundation concerns on your property.

Weather Conditions

Due to hot and dry circumstances, the soil around your home may shrink and move away from the foundation. Cracks may occur throughout the structure as a result of this. As the earth shrinks, gaps will form near the foundation, allowing the foundation to sink and settle into the ground.

Difference between Plane and Geodetic Survey

“What is Survey”, so the simple description is that, survey is an art of understanding whether the things are reacting in relation to each other. A particular object is thoroughly measured based on the length, wide its elevation, objects each angles were thoroughly judged by the use of specific surveying instruments.

Survey can be broadly classified into two broad groups, Plain Survey and Geodetic Survey which are discussed and 6 differences between Plane Survey and Geodetic Survey is also discussed below.

Why do we need proper surveying?

  1. Through proper surveying we can verify its relative locations of particular objects.
  2. It is basically used to measure the area and perimeter of particular objects.
  3. It can also be use be used to create wide layout of various structures on the ground like buildings, terrains, highways, canals, railway section eta.
  4. Topographical map of any district or state can be created by surveying that shows natural features like lakes, ponds, canals, terrains, etc.
  5. It is also used to create a map that could show the boundaries of fields, individual plots etc.
  6. Surveying is also used to determine the ideal location for crating dams, tunnels, bridges etc.
  7. Through different types of survey many towns and cities gets developed roads and highways. Mining locations can also be determined, militaries also depends on surveying to develop their strategies.

Know more about Waffle Slabs

A waffle slab is a platform with a square grid with deep sides and a reinforced concrete ceiling or floor. A grid slab is another name for this. Waffle slabs are mostly used to install good illumination and artificial lighting at the doors of hotels, shopping malls, and restaurants.

As these systems are lighter and hence can be utilized for roofing and flooring, they can handle larger loads and longer distances than flat floors. They are also employed when the depth of the beams must be limited in order to achieve a clear height.

In the Construction of the auditorium, large seminar halls and Airports required slabs with longer spans. Conventional slabs cannot be constructed for longer spans. Whenever a longer area has to be covered without any hindrance, engineers recommend the Construction of a waffle slab.

Features related to Waffle Slabs

1. Waffle slabs are the best option which is used when the structures are required with longer spans. The waffle slab is also known as the Ribbed Slab.

2. When constructions with greater spans are required, waffle slabs are the best alternative. The ribbed slab is another name for a waffle slab.

3. Many builders and engineers are now advising their clients to use waffle slabs instead of traditional slabs in their projects.

4. When compared to a traditional slab, the waffle slab is much thinner. The depth of the beam used in the waffle slab is greater.

5. The waffle slab’s upper portion is very thin and rests on the grid lines, which are perpendicular to each other.

6. Waffle slabs are commonly utilized in movie theatres, train stations, auditoriums, airports, and other constructions where a significant number of columns cannot be built.

Bricks classified by Shapes in Construction

Officially, the term brick is applied to mean a structure unit made of molded earth, but in modern-day occasions, it’s far applied to allude to any stone-or dust-based shape unit that is gotten collectively with cementitious mortar whilst utilized in construction.

Typically, bricks are around four inches extensive, 8 inches in length, with an collection of thicknesses. Bigger stone or earth-based structure devices of the kind applied in institutions are normally called blocks.

How Bricks Are Categorized

There are various approaches that brick may be classified. For instance, you could partition brick into the kinds utilized for confronting (exposed and obvious on the outdoor of a structure) as opposed to backing bricks (that are applied essentially and are escaped see).

Every other approach for classifying brick is as per how they are fabricated: unfired (brick this is air-restored) and terminated (brick this is heated in broilers to be able to solidify it). Bricks may be likewise categorized via their run of the mill use: regular bricks or constructing bricks.

For motivations at the back of non-public production, it is typically ordinary bricks which might be of most enthusiasm, considering that designing bricks are all the more frequently utilized in structural building ventures, as an instance, street or scaffold construction, or in sewers creation.

Bricks classified by shapes

  1. Brick veneers: These bricks are meager and utilized for surface cladding.
  2. Airbricks: These bricks contain huge openings to circle air and decrease weight. They are utilized in suspended floors and cavity dividers.
  3. Perforated bricks: These bricks contain numerous barrel shaped openings penetrated all through the brick. They are exceptionally light in weight.
  4. Bullnose brick: These are bricks formed with round edges.
  5. Paving bricks: These bricks contain a decent measure of iron. They are utilized underneath paving applications.
  6. Capping bricks: These bricks are utilized to top the highest points of unattached dividers.
  7. Hollow bricks: About 33% of the heaviness of the typical bricks, these are utilized for the most part in parcel dividers where load-bearing isn’t required.

Consolidation Tips for Congested Areas in Concrete

Consolidation of concrete is caused by structural and seismic design constraints, embedded conduits and pipelines, and boxouts. The right concrete pouring and compaction processes should be used to consolidate new concrete in congested concrete members.

Otherwise, the concrete element suffers from a lack of strength and durability as a result of issues such as honeycomb and weak concrete cover, as well as costly and time-consuming repair work.

To ensure proper compaction in congested regions and achieve structurally sound and aesthetically beautiful concrete, contractors must exercise great caution and attention while selecting concrete pouring and consolidation processes. In addition, high flowable concrete must be considered when placing the concrete in its final position.

Prevention tips to consolidate congested areas in concrete:

Concrete Placement

Concrete compaction in congested places depends on placing concrete close to its final location. The concrete supervisor or site engineer should be in charge of using buckets and cranes. A rubber hose linked to a booming pipe must be attached to concrete pumps when pouring concrete near the final position.

When the spacing between steel bars is too short, resulting in significant congestion, a lie-flat hose is recommended. Between tightly spaced steel bars, concrete can be poured into this pipe type. The hose can easily be severed to remove fresh concrete that rises in the forms.

Implementation of Modified Mixture

When the proportional mixture’s flow to the form face is uncertain, modified mixtures are suggested for congested concrete elements.

The modified mixture has a smaller maximum nominal aggregate size to ensure that the concrete flows well.

Concrete Slump Test Procedures and Types

The concrete slump test is used during construction to determine the quality of concrete mixes prepared in the lab or on-site. Concrete slump tests are performed during construction to check for uniformity in concrete quality. Concrete slump testing is the simplest, cheapest, and fastest method of determining its workability.

Concrete Workability

When describing concrete’s workability, you are describing its ability to be mixed, transported, and placed uniformly. Mixes are workable depending on their water content, aggregate quality, and fine material content. Several researchers have tried measuring the workability of concrete using different parameters, and they have discovered some tests that are very close to checking it.

Concrete Slump Value

Workability is generally determined by the concrete slump value, which indicates the water-cement ratio, though other factors such as material properties, mixing methods, dosage, admixtures, etc. can also influence the concrete slump value.

Slump Test

However, it is not suitable for extremely wet or extremely dry concrete despite how easy this method is to use. Slump tests help determine concrete uniformity from batch to batch, and this test can be used for that purpose. Similarly, repeat batches of the same mix will have the same amount of water & water-cement ratio, the weights of aggregate, cement, and additives will be uniform. The aggregate grade will be within acceptable limits.
